Our Pastor

My name is Earl Burkholder and I have been appointed to fulfill the pastoral role in your church as a part-time local pastor starting this July. I want to take this opportunity to let you know a little bit about me so you will understand my background as we come together in church and as we study God’s Word. I have previously served as pastor for United Methodist Churches from June to October 2008 as pastor for the Middlewell/Hunt Memorial, a two-point charge; June 2009 through December 2013 as pastor for Wesley Borger and from June 2014 through June 2015 at Channing, all in the Northwest Texas United Methodist Conference.

I grew up in Ashland, Kentucky the oldest of four children. I met my wife, Sherry, while attending the University of Kentucky; in August we will have been married forty-seven years. Graduating as a Chemical Engineer, I joined the United States Navy serving in nuclear submarine assignments until retirement. In 1995 I started working for the Department of Energy at the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas finally retiring in November 2019, moving to Pennsylvania to be near family. Sherry is a retired middle/high school math and science teacher.

Sherry and I have three children: Coral, living near Phoenix, AZ with her husband and two children, Ian and Maggie; Patrick, married living in Avis with a daughter, Kimber; and Kyla, living in Boston, MA with her husband and two children, Riley and James.

At the bottom of this note I have listed my contact information. I am hard of hearing and prefer to be called on my cell phone. I do check email and texts often if you would prefer that medium.

My family rarely attended church; however, through my wife and several wonderful people of God, I came to know the love of our Lord and Savior. Jean DeCaussade once said: Everything that happens is either soap to cleanse me, fire to purify me, or a chisel to fashion me in the likeness of Christ. I think God through his grace has been and is continuing to mold me in my witness to his overwhelming love and life-changing power. I am excited about this opportunity and am looking forward to serving you to the best of my ability.

Please pray for mea nd for God’s energizing power in this, his church,

In God’s Grace,

Earl Burkholder
